It is now over one hundred years since the publication of the Lake Dwellings of Ireland yet no proper survey of the life or writings of Col. Wood-Martin has appeared. It seems fitting therefore to present the work of Col Wood-Martin to a wider audience and to chronicle his achievements so that more researchers will become aware of his vast importance in the later part of the nineteenth century and his influence on modern archaeological thought and practice.
