Abstract

Saccocoelioides pearsoni n. sp. uses the fresh-water snail Posticobia brazieri as intermediate host. It is postulated that this snail has changed from a marine to a fresh-water habitat, as may have occurred also in other parts of the world where haploporids are found in fresh-water fish. The sporocyst of S. pearsoni is simple. There is one redial generation. Cercariae are ocellate and encyst on algae, etc. Lecithobotrys sprenti n. sp. is also described. The definitive hosts of both adults are species of mullet. Light and electron microscopy (scanning and transmission) were used in this study. Saccocoelioides magniovatus Szidat, 1954 is transferred to the genus Lecithobotrys Looss, 1902, as L. magniovatus n. comb.
