Neofuscelia halei sp. nov. is described from Spain and the Canary Islands. This species, named in honor of the late Dr. Mason E. Hale, Jr., differs from the related N. verruculifera (Nyl.) Essl. primarily by its production of alectoronic and gyrophoric acids as major medullary compounds, rather than divaricatic acid, and by its much more limited geographic distribution.
