Based on selected taxa of Lycoperdales and Geastrales, phylogeny and delimitation of several gasteroid mushroom genera were investigated using RFLP and sequence analysis of 18S rDNA and ITS rDNA (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2). Support for an Agaricales-Lycoperdales relationship was found, the Geastrales being clearly separated from this lineage. Within the Lycoperdales, Lycoperdon was found to be polyphyletic, whereas Bovista appeared to be monophyletic.
