Abstract

/// The authors examine the life of Manuel Girona i Agrafel, one of the main figures of the Barcelona financial world of the nineteenth century. The analysis is based on three key aspects, namely the figure's family, social and professional life, which are perpetually linked and mutually dependent. From a professional point of view, Manuel Girona left his mark as a result of his experience in the Bank of Barcelona, one of the main issuing and commercial banks in Spain, and in the management of the Girona company. However, he led a very full public life as a politician and patron and was involved in a wide range of areas. His business endeavours naturally linked family life and the social network to which he belonged.
