Abstract

The authors discuss the changing circumstances of the Oasis Housing Corporation, a faith-based organization devoted to providing working families with transitional housing. After more than a decade devoted to combating the homelessness problem in the Dallas area, Oasis entered the 21st century with a Board of Directors committed to planning for a new era of expanded service to its clients. Unexpectedly, the results of more than two years spent in contemplating the organization's future led to its dissolution. In the end, Oasis Housing Corporation could not make a successful transition from being a congregationally based, volunteer operation to becoming a professional, staff-driven agency within the government-mandated Continuum of Care system for assisting homeless families.
