Abstract

Do seating-places around a table affect participants' behavior in « group tests » (leaderless group discussion) ? Behavior descriptions and subjective scores given by three judges to 177 subjects were compared according to whether the subjects were seating at the end of the table, near the middle or in an intermediary place. Subjects seating near the middle behave objectively in the same way as the others, but they are under-scored by judges who implicitly take into account their privileged place. Inversely, judges compensate the real but slight inferiority which affects subjects seating at the end of the table. Finally, the same percentage of participants are completely silent in all seating-places.
