Abstract

In order to acquire a better understanding of their structure and their contents, the properties of proverbs which justify an attempt at clarification are first presented. We then show how figures and the association of different meanings may be made by means of a symbolic language. The passage from the proverb to this language requires a clarification that is fruitful. Calculations on expressions produced in this language lead to a greater comprehension of the proverb's organization. Nonetheless, the limitations of these methods are acknowledged.
