Thanks to some yet unknown sources, this study reconstructs some fundamental aspects of the biography of the Marrano doctor Pedro alias Ezechiel de Castro and of his family during their stay in Verona and then in Mantua. It has, therefore, been possible to follow the steps of de Castro's "reconversion" to Christianity and precise that it took place in Verona in the spring of 1647; to state that de Castro family moved from Verona to Mantua because it was Pedro's elder son, Sebastiano, who was appointed medicus physicus of the Duke of Mantua, not Pedro himself as it has been common opinion up to today; and that Pedro died in Mantua, at the age of 60, on December 5, 1662.
