Abstract

The state-centered approach in the historical, structural, and comparative study of revolutions is utilized to shed light on the forces, coalitions, and processes that resulted in the successful political revolution of the Philippines in 1986. Conversely, the state-centered theoretical approach to the study of revolutions is critiqued for ignoring religious ideology and culture in the failure of the Communist insurgency to bring about a social revolution against the sultanistic regime of Marcos.
