Abstract

The fall of communism in late 1980s and the postcommunist socio-economic and political transition determined a resurgence of Eastern European immigrants as a new phenomenon in United States. Examining Eastern European immigrants will increase the understanding of today's diverse immigrant population and their adaptation in the host society. Using the data from the 2002-2004 Annual Social and Economic Supplement of the Current Population Survey, the purpose of this article is to facilitate an understanding of the characteristics of Eastern European immigration. Systematic research on Eastern European immigrants could increase the understanding of today's diverse immigrant population and their adaptation to the new society. La chute du communisme dans les années 80 en retard et la transition socio-économique et politique après communiste ont déterminé une réapparition des immigrés de l'Europe de l'est comme nouveau phénomène dans l'États-Unis. Examiner ces immigrés augmentera l'arrangement de la population immigrée diverse d'aujourd'hui et leur adaptation dans la société d'accueil. En utilisant les données des 2002-2004 Suppléments Sociaux et Economiques Annuels de l'Enquête Courante de Population, le but de cet article est de faciliter un compréhension des caractéristiques de l'immigration de l'Europe de l'est. La recherche systématique sur les immigrés européens de l'est a pu augmenter l'arrangement de la population immigrée diverse d'aujourd'hui et leur adaptation à la nouvelle société. Examinar a inmigrantes europeos del este aumentarâ la comprension de la poblacion inmigrante diversa de hoy y de su adaptation en la sociedad del anfitrion. Usando los datos de los 2002-2004 Suplementos Sociales y Economicos Anuales de la Encuesta Actual de la Poblacion, el proposito de este articulo es facilitar una comprension de las caracteristicas de la inmigracion europea del este. La investigacion sistemâtica sobre inmigrantes europeos del este podia aumentar la comprension de la poblacion inmigrante diversa de hoy y de su adaptacion a la nueva sociedad.
