Science Parks, technological poles and other similar infrastructures have been realized in some industrialised countries in the last decade. Despite their large diffusion, the rate of success in promoting technological development is very different from case to case. After having proposed different taxonomies of such infrastructures, factors affecting failure and success are examined in order to have usefull insights for the future, given the increasing interests of policy makers for similar policies.
