Abstract

The new species, Schoenus lymansmithii, is named in honor of its collector, Lyman Bradford Smith, 1904-1997. It represents the first member of Schoenus section Helothrix recorded from the Americas. A description and illustration are provided and its relationship to other taxa is discussed.
