Abstract

Pietro Verri, the well-know Milanese philosopher and economist, was in his old age an enthusiastic supporter of the French Revolution and cooperated in various capacities with the republican government established in Lombardy in May 1796 after the French invasion. This paper outlines his activities and the evolution of his political attitudes in the last year of his life (he died in June 1797), on the basis of unpublished sources which include Verri's letter to Bonaparte published as an appendix.
