Abstract

Surveys od Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.), Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) crops grown in the West coast of Turkey have shown the occurrence of a variety of virus-like syndromes in most of the inspected fields. Mechanical inoculation tests and/or ultrastructural observations of thin-sectioned tissues from symptomatic plants allowed the identification of lettuce mosaic virus in Lettuce, eggplant mottled dwarf virus in Eggplant, artichoke latent virus and Cynara rhabdovirus in Artichoke. The identity of a possible rhabdovirus and a potyvirus infecting Soybean could not be established. Most of the viruses found in this survey represent new records for Turkey.
