Abstract

Vrchlický’s epic poems in the collections Zlomky epopeje, Nové zlomky epopeje, Třetí kniha básní epických and Fresky a gobelíny are the subject of this article. From the point of view of grammatical, syntactical and semantic construction, the author analyzes the poems Triumf jara, Co zbylo z antické fresky, Freska závěrečná, Sirius and Triptych odyssejský. It is the proximity or distance of the observer, and the static and dynamic nature of the events depicted, spatial perspective, and the relationship between the subject of narration and the potential reader that are examined here.
