Evangelicals and particularly Pentecostals had a growing role in Brazilian politics in the last six years and a decisive role in the 1989 presidential election. Such participation is in grave danger of merely bringing political clout to ensure the growth of the church. It lacks a coherent vision for Brazilian society. While it is conservative it cannot be properly compared with the New Christian Right in the USA.
