Abstract

The article proposes a set of criteria for an analysis and evaluation of textbooks which take account of the specific use of the textbooks in school teaching and their function in the process of learning of history. The author complains about a general deficiency of research and theoretical reflexion of these criteria. He presents a short explanation of three main objectives of history learning (skills of historical perception, historical interpretation and historical orientation), and he develops in a systematic argumentation a set of criteria in respect to these three objectives and the practical use of textbooks for historical instruction. L'article propose un jeu de critères pour l'analyse et l'evaluation de manuels scolaires qui prennent en compte l'usage scolaire spécifique des manuels et leur fonction dans l'acquisition de connaissances historiques. L'auteur critique le déficit général de recherches et réflexions théoriques sur les critères. Il présente une brève définition de trois objectifs prioritaires assignés à l'enseignement de l'histoire (aptitude à la perception, l'interprétation et l'orientation historique). En évoquant des arguments systématiques, il expose un jeu de critères qui tiennent compte de ces trois objectifs essentiels et de l'emploi des manuels dans l'instruction historique.
