The wave-length shifts of Hg II lines occurring when the vapour was heavily excited at relatively higher pressure were investigated. Many lines have been found to shift, for the most part to the longer wavelength side. The shift was considered in connection with the spectral term relation. It resulted that higher levels seem to suffer, in general, larger displacements than lower ones. In several lines of Hg II, McLennan's interpretation is not coincident with those of Paschen and of Naudé. It has been found, in the present experiment, that the former interpretation seems to be more plausible than the latters.
