Abstract

The authors maintain that Italian Studies in the field of contemporary history are unsatisfactory at present. Numerous books of no mean length are published, but they are mainly descriptive and do little to face the major historical problems of our time. According to the authors the reasons for this are both cultural and political; they therefore propose that the problem be debated among scholars of various schools in «Quaderni Storici» itself.
