Abstract

/// How this mining giant abruptly collapsed in the focus of this article. Instead of adopting what has become a classic interpretation--Mobutu's patrimonial politics and a poor economic environment, this works underscires the internal dynamics of the company, its particular socialsetting. This approach provides a clear reading of how the company was looted from within during the various episodes of its gradual decline, notably during the 1980s.
