The Crustacean Society was founded in December of 1979 by scientists who recognized the need for an international organization and journal to enhance the study of all aspects of crustacean biology and to promote the exchange of information and ideas among persons interested in carcinology. The society encourages and rewards outstanding contributions to the field in three areas: Best Paper (published in the Journal of Crustacean Biology), Best Student Presentation (at scientific meetings), and Research Excellence (periodically awarded for a significant body of work). We also financially support symposia on crustacean issues.
