The Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), a statutory body established in 1985 (formerly known as Forest Research Institute or FRI since 1929), promotes ecologically sustainable forestry sector through the conservation of natural resources and environment, sustainable forest management, and the development of efficient downstream and upstream processing and utilisation technology through researches. As an institute governed by the Malaysian Forestry Research and Development Board (MFRDB), FRIM has also chalked up an array of prestigious national and international awards and recognitions, and international collaborations that have earned the Institute a name for itself in the tropical forestry. FRIM publishes a wide range of publications on forestry and forest products as an authentic reference to the progressive development of tropical forestry sector in Malaysia and the region. The Journal of Tropical Forest Sciences (JTFS), currently the only journal published by FRIM, highlights notable scientific discoveries in the field of tropical forestry.
