The Historic Gardens Foundation is a UK based educational charity formed in 1995 to champion the cause of historic parks, gardens and designed landscapes worldwide. Its aim is to disseminate information and ideas concerning this fascinating and vital area of the heritage and to do so on an international basis. Many countries have their own garden history organisations but they are often insular or even parochial: the HGF, by contrast, exists to bring professionals and enthusiasts together irrespective of borders and to encourage recognition of the cultural importance of garden heritage. Historic gardens are amongst the most visited and appreciated sites for tourists and contribute significantly to national revenues in almost all countries. They deserve wider support of the kind the HGF provides through its magazine and newsletters.
