The Historical Society of Israel, founded in 1926, based in Jerusalem, is the professional organization of historians teaching and studying all aspects of history in Israel. It is the representative of Israeli scholars in international organizations of historians. It collaborates with the Zalman Shazar Center for Jewish History in programs promoting education in Jewish History in Israel, including courses and an annual conference intended to bring the results of the latest historical research to wider audiences.
The HSI publishes Zion: a Quarterly for research in Jewish History, as of 1926, to the present. The HSI also publishes the journal Historia, which explores world history.
Since 1993, it sponsors The Menahem Stern Jerusalem Lectures. The series of monographs based on these lectures, is published in English by the University Press of New England, and in Hebrew by the Historical Society of Israel.
