Hoger Instituut voor Wijsbegeerte Publisher Description

The Institute of Philosophy was founded in 1889 with the aim to bring together the tradition of religion and confession with the emerging behavioral and natural sciences. This initial inspiration still expresses itself through a strong emphasis on fundamental philosophical issues, through the continuing presence of specific philosophical areas (such as metaphysics, philosophy of religion, etc.) in the curriculum, and through the large amount of non-philosophical scientific disciplines in the program (the so-called “options” or minors in the Dutch BA program). Moreover, the Institute wishes to continue to play a role in the critical reflection on societal issues.
