The Association deals with the following areas: the cultivation and expansion of Hebrew literature by the joint work of Hebrew writers, protecting the spiritual and material interests of literary workers, and establishment of a book publishing fund. The Writers' Association currently comprises about 450 writers, poets, directors and playwrights. The activities of the Association contribute significantly to various areas of Jewish creative life.

האגודה עוסקת בתחומים הבאים:
טיפוח הספרות העברית והרחבתה ע"י עבודה משותפת של הסופרים העבריים.
הגנה על העניינים הרוחניים והחומריים של העובדים בתחומי הספרות.
הקמת קרן להוצאת ספרים.

אגודת הסופרים מאגדת כיום תחת שורותיה כ-450 סופרים, משוררים, במאים ומחזאים. פעילויות האגודה תורמות באופן משמעותי לתחומים שונים בחיי היצירה והיוצר העבריים. בראש המפעלים הללו ניצבים הירחון "מאזניים", מכון "גנזים" ומוזיאון טשרניחובסקי.
