The Italian Phytopathological Society (Società Italiana di Patologia Vegetale; S.I.Pa.V.) has been founded in 1992 thanks to the merging of the Società Italiana di Fitoiatria (S.I.F.) and of the Associazione Fitopatologica Italiana (A.F.I.).

SIPaV mission is:

-to promote studies and researches on Plant Pathology;

-to disseminate the knowledge about plant diseases and their causal agents

-to promote the collaboration and the exchange of ideas among scientists working within Institutions active in the field of Plant Pathology and the establishment of relationships with other fundamental and applied research sectors.

SIPaV organizes conferences, collects and disseminates information about plant diseases, maintains links to national and international scientific organizations and to governmental or regional technical bodies or other agencies on issues related to plant health, publishes a scientific journal, Journal of Plant Pathology, a newsletter and other bibliographic, iconographic and documentary material to disseminate societal news and articles written by Society members and external collaborators.
