Two new genera of Ostracoda are described: Climacoidea (type species: C. plueurata Puri, n. sp.) from the Caloosahatchee marl ("Pliocene") and Howella (type species: Cythere evax Ulrich and Bassler) from the Miocene of Maryland and Florida. A new species, Howella echinata, is described from the Cooper marl (upper Eocene). Climacoidea Puri, n. gen., cannot be classified in a family but Howella Puri, n. gen., is placed under the subfamily Trachyleberidinae Sylvester-Bradley, 1948.
