Abstract

A Madonna and Child attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio in the collection of the Walters Art Museum has iconographic features that indicate the sculpture's original setting in an Adoration scene. The evidence that these features provide also has important implications for understanding one of Arnolfo's most significant monuments: the Praesepe of Santa Maria Maggiore.
