The significance of the art of Suzanne Valadon has long been overlooked largely due to the conventional methodologies used to interpret it. A multiple perspective that engages issues of class, gender, artistic milieu, and artistic conventions reveals a different body of work than the one posited in the literature at present. A study of her female nudes through such a multiple perspective discloses a diversity of representations that sometimes participate in, sometimes resist, and sometimes renegotiate the conventions of the genre.
