Syria is a French journal published once a year in Beirut. Started in 1922, it is dedicated to the publication of all scientific work relating to ancient Middle Eastern archaeology, history, and art history, from prehistorical time to the advent of Islam. Syria is published by the Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO Beirut-Damas-Amman), a French research institution of the ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). La revue Syria est une revue périodique française paraissant en une seule livraison chaque année. Fondée en 1922 à Beyrouth, elle a pour vocation de publier tous travaux scientifiques relatifs à l'archéologie, à l'histoire et à l'histoire de l'art du Proche-Orient ancien, depuis la préhistoire jusqu'à l'avènement de l'islam. Elle est éditée par l'Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO Beyrouth-Damas-Amman), institut de recherche relevant du ministère français des Affaires étrangères et européennes et du Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS).

Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO, http://www.ifporient.org) is a French research center dealing with the field of social sciences in Jordan (Amman), Lebanon (Beirut) and Syria (Damascus and Aleppo). It is also concerned with Iraq and in the Palestinian Territories. It is part of the French ministry of Foreign Affairs and the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research). The IFPO is an institution devoted to scientific research in the field of Middle Eastern civilizations and of the Arabic-Moslem cultures, from upper Antiquity to the contemporary world while passing by the classical time. The Institute aims mainly at promoting scientific studies, training through research, the diffusion of knowledge, and cooperating with local and international institutions. The IFPO is organized in three scientific departments: Archaeology and History of Antiquity, Arabic Studies, and Contemporaneous Studies. On its different sites, it welcomes experienced researchers from various backgrounds, as well as young trained researchers (grant holders, Ph.D students ...). The IFPO devotes important resources to the publication of books and scientific journals, linked with its scientific programs and activities. L'Institut Français du Proche-Orient (IFPO, http://www.ifporient.org) est un centre français de recherche en sciences humaines présent en Jordanie (Amman), au Liban (Beyrouth) et en Syrie (Damas et Alep). Il a également compétence en Iraq et dans les Territoires palestiniens. Il relève du ministère français des Affaires étrangères et du CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique). L'IFPO est un lieu d'étude et de recherche scientifique dans tous les domaines des civilisations du Proche-Orient et des cultures arabo-musulmanes, depuis la plus haute Antiquité jusqu'au monde contemporain en passant par l'époque classique. Les principales missions de l'Institut sont la recherche, la formation à la recherche, la diffusion des savoirs, la coopération avec les institutions locales et internationales. L'IFPO est organisé autour de trois directions scientifiques : archéologie et sciences de l'Antiquité, études arabes, études contemporaines. Il accueille sur ses différents sites des chercheurs confirmés d'origines diverses et des chercheurs en formation (boursiers, allocataires, doctorants...). L'IFPO consacre d'importants moyens à la publication d'ouvrages et de revues de recherche, en lien avec ses programmes et activités scientifiques.
